This Mindfulness course will support you to develop your own regular mindfulness practice, bringing you greater inner peace as your freedom to notice and respond more wisely to events in your life increases. It has been developed by the Oxford Mindfulness Centre from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), a well-researched approach for alleviating anxiety, stress, depression and exhaustion, and for promoting happiness, well-being and flourishing.

Studies have shown that when mindfulness is practiced regularly over time, it brings about positive longterm changes in mood and positively affects the brain’s patterns - regular mindfulness practitioners see their doctors less, are less reactive and more creative.

*Please note: This is a specialist course delivered by Anita Bhattacharjee. In the event of tutor absence, the course will be postponed and will not be covered by an alternative tutor. Anita Bhattacharjee is teaching this course as part of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Adult Learning course offer and not as a representative of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre.

What do I need to join the course?

Before undertaking Finding Peace in a Frantic World you should, ideally, have attended our Mindfulness Step1 and 2 courses as an introduction. This is not essential if you already have some previous mindfulness experience. You must be willing to commit to daily practice in order to benefit fully from the course content.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

You may find it useful to have a notebook and pen to make notes.

How will I be taught?

Your learning will be supported by an experienced tutor through short individual mindfulness practices and activities, small and large group discussions, video clips, and reading materials. You will also be invited to develop your skills and understanding through wider reading between sessions.

Attendance at all sessions is important if you are to receive the full benefits of this course, as is the commitment to practice mindfulness between sessions.

You will be given the opportunity to have one to one tutorials with your tutor to discuss personal progress

What will I learn?

On the course you will:

  • be introduced to teaching and practices to help you respond better to life’s challenges
  • discover how your automatic pilot can reduce your chances to respond wisely to situations
  • learn how to work in new ways with difficult thoughts and emotions that arise in your life
  • experience a wide range of mindfulness practices
  • discover what nourishes and supports you
  • be supported to develop your own mindfulness practice and routine
  • identify ways to take mindfulness further into your life beyond the course

Session times for session 2 and 6 will incorporate some independent learning while learners undertake 1-1 tutorials with the tutor.

What could I do next?

After successfully completing this course you may choose to progress to the Self-Compassion with Mindfulness course. Your tutor will discuss this with you.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
