Developing creative writing skills (09V103CL/21)

What do I need to join the course?

It would be useful if you have attended our Getting started with Creative Writing course.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Bring something to write with and on, notebook and pen, laptop, tablet etc.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a small, friendly group by our enthusiastic and experienced tutor. You will explore writers, concepts and techniques that demonstrate the ideas you are learning.

The sessions are interactive and you will produce your writing through a workshop environment. You will be able to share your work with your peers and give/receive feedback.

The two hour sessions are divided into one hour of new knowledge/learning, and one hour of a writer’s workshop environment for learners to apply, practise and also share for peer review/feedback.

What will I learn?

In this four week course you will develop your skills in:

• genre
• narrative
• form
• using ‘point of view’ in your work
• the completion of a short story

What could I do next?

You may wish to progress to our ‘moving on with creative writing skills’ course. Your tutor will provide more information about this at the end of your course. We also offer courses in other creative subjects which may interest you.
