Crocheting can be an effective tool in managing the stresses and strains of modern life, providing a restful and relaxing hobby which can be picked up at any time and results in unique homemade items. You’ll reap the benefits of being ‘in the moment’ and concentrating on a specific activity, blocking out the worries and stresses of everyday life. On this course you will develop your crochet skills, learn new stitches and, with the tutor’s help, choose a pattern and yarn to complete your own project. Come along to this Step 2 course to learn new skills and engage in a relaxing and productive craft activity!

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

It may be useful if you have attended the Step 1 Crochet for relaxation course but this is not essential if you already have basic crocheting skills.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

You will need one crochet hook (size 6mm) and at least two balls of chunky weight wool (100g), in at least two colours of your choice. If you have a range of crochet hooks of different sizes then please also bring these along.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught and supported by a friendly and experienced tutor and will take part in a range of activities including demonstrations, group and individual work. You may wish to carry out work outside the classroom to help you practise and apply the skills and knowledge that you gain.

What will I learn?

On this course you will improve both your crocheting skills and your ability to use mindfulness to relax and reduce stress. You will learn how to use mindfulness to help you to address and cope with change in your life and to use relaxation as part of your self-care routine at home. You will also plan a personal short term goal to achieve a by the end of the course. Over the six sessions you will also learn how to make colour changes, add borders to your work and complete a crochet project that you will be able to keep at the end of the course to show your achievement and progress.

What could I do next?

You may like to consider some of our other Adult Learning courses such as knitting, dressmaking, mindfulness, self-esteem and confidence building, self compassion with mindfulness, photography, computer skills, English, maths and employability courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
