If you’re new to scriptwriting or would like to develop your existing skills and knowledge, then this course will introduce you to a range of scriptwriting elements, from planning and drafting, to editing and finalising your work.
You’ll learn how to gather ideas and use planning techniques to add details and build your ideas into plans for your writing. You’ll then learn about the conventions of different genres and how to adapt your writing to impact your audience, whether you’d like them to laugh, cry or feel suspense. Next, you’ll focus on creating characters that drive your script and learn how to match their personalities to their dialogue and interactions with others. You’ll also learn about the conventions of writing for audio and radio in order to create effect in the absence of visuals, before moving on to using screenplays to illustrate scenes and sequences. Finally, you’ll learn a range of editing techniques you can use to improve your writing and to make sure that you’re able to showcase your very best work.

You don’t need any experience of scriptwriting at all, just an interest in the subject and the willingness to get involved and to have a go at putting pen to paper.
We recommend that you bring a notebook and a pen.
