If you have a need within your role to have an understanding of the legislation regarding fires and evacuation procedures and responsibilities under the “Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005”, then this course is for you.
What do I need to join the course?
Delegates do not need any prior knowledge regarding fire legislation or experience in the use of fire extinguishers, however it would be useful for you to have an awareness of the fire evacuation procedures within your work area.

If your course is delivered online:
You’ll need a reliable internet connection and a device such as a laptop, tablet or PC. A quiet
space and headphones and a microphone are recommended for the best experience. Please be online and prepared when the session begins.
For face-to-face sessions:
Please bring a notepad or a device for making notes. Ensure you arrive promptly so the session can start on time.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught by an experienced trainer and will take part in a range of activities including demonstrations, group and individual work.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- About the legislative requirements regarding the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and fire evacuation procedures
- What the responsibilities of the 'responsible person’ in relation to fire legislation are
- About the three elements of the fire triangle and the applicable principles of control
- What the common causes of fire are, associated preventative controls and how to identify fire hazards in your workplace and at home.
- About the importance of fire evacuation procedures and the roles of the fire team.
- How to safely use a fire blanket and know when to use one.
- How to identify the correct fire extinguisher for different types of fires i.e. electrical, chemical, paper etc. and understand other fire control measures such as smoke alarms, fire blankets and the requirements of the law regarding these.
- How to use a fire extinguisher (water and CO2), be able to use a fire extinguisher safely, be able to define when and when not to tackle a fire and what to do before attempting to do so, in line with fire evacuation procedures.
