If you already have some experience in patchwork and quilting – perhaps from attending our other Patchwork courses – then this is the perfect way to take your skills to the next level.

You’ll learn how to make beautiful, unique patchworks that are ideal for gifts, mementos or just to keep you warm on long winter nights. You’ll get to build on the skills you’ve already developed with techniques like appliqué and quilting and you’ll learn how to work with complex shapes and art patchwork panels.

By the end of the course you’ll have completed your own unique piece – but more importantly you’ll have learnt new skills to incorporate into your own projects.

What will I learn?

On this course you will learn:

  • different tools and techniques to use when making simple patchwork and quilted items
  • how to use templates to cut out and stitch shapes together to create different projects
  • the basics of quilting and how to add further layers to complete your personal project
  • how to construct a patchwork cushion panel or lap blanket/ table runner or wall hanging
  • how to use the sewing machine safely and how to design, plan, develop and assemble your own, unique project

What is it like to learn with East Riding Adult Learning and Employability?

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps.  They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.
