Anyone who has become absorbed in a hobby will tell you how the activity can totally engage your attention and harness your creativity. Being "in the moment" is an essential part of following a pattern or instructions; these qualities can become a form of mindfulness practice, bringing you peace, relaxation, and a sense of wellbeing.
Crochet is a cheap and portable hobby – you can make projects for yourself or for your home or to give as gifts to friends and family. The satisfaction of creating these items and seeing others admire them also helps to encourage positive feelings, satisfaction, and happiness.
Come along to this beginner’s course, learn the basics of crochet, and engage in a relaxing and productive craft activity! You’ll be able to make and take home granny squares, a coaster or a phone cover.
On this course, you will learn the basics of mindfulness and how to carry out crochet activities in a mindful and relaxing way.
This will include identifying sources of stress in your own life and how to apply your new skills to help you to relax in your daily life.
Over the course you will also learn the art of crochet and create a small item to take home as a reminder of your achievement and participation.
The course fee is displayed at the top of this page.
This course is supported by Tailored Learning funding with an aim of improving health and wellbeing. A fee concession may be available dependent on your circumstances.
At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability, we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, to the day you achieve your goals.
If you choose to join this course you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in a small friendly and welcoming group, have the opportunity to take part in activities to practise your skills, be encouraged to continue to practise when you are away from the classroom and receive lots of encouragement to help you build both your skills and your confidence.
As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.
Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us ensure that you feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.
This course is aimed at beginners; no prior knowledge of crochet is required.
