If you’d like to start writing about the life experiences of yourself or others and are not quite sure where to begin, then you might like to sign up to this course for an introduction to life writing, starting right at the beginning with the basics.

On this course you’ll be supported to identify the key events and themes associated with life writing that you’d like to approach and you’ll also focus on the planning and researching process and how to compose your work. You’ll learn about a range of life writing formats, such as memoir, biography and autobiography and explore how you can adapt your writing style for each one. Next, you’ll focus on different themes associated with life writing and how to approach these, from describing travel experiences, to expressing emotions and feelings.

In each session you’ll have the chance to share your work with other members of the group and to give and receive constructive criticism to help you to continue your development beyond the end of your course.

  • How to edit your work for different audiences.

What do I need to join the course?

This course is aimed at intermediate-level creative writers. You should have some experience of creative writing, be interested in expanding your knowledge even further and be willing to put pen to paper in the sessions.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

We recommend that you bring your preferred writing equipment, such as a notebook and a pen.
