Do you always buy Christmas crackers, only to be disappointed and throw away both the wrappings and the ‘gift’? If this is the case, then let us show you how to make your own crackers that can be used again and again, and you can fill with your own personalised gifts for that special Christmas treat.

In this one-off session we’ll show you how to sew reusable crackers from recycled materials, or your favourite fabric -perhaps some pieces with a special meaning for you? They’ll become a part of your family traditions, and you can refill them every year with gifts chosen especially with your family and guests in mind.

We’ll also ask if you would consider making one extra cracker to give to a charity or local cause.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to use some basic sewing skills to make unique, individualised Christmas crackers to reuse and fill with gifts of your own choice every year. If you have time you may like to make an extra cracker that we can donate to a charity on your behalf.

How much will it cost?

This course is funded through Tailored Learning with the purpose of Building Stronger Communities. The cost is shown at the top of the page. A concession may be available dependent on circumstances.

What is it like to learn with East Riding Adult Learning and Employability?

At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, to the day you achieve your goals.

If you choose to join this course you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in a small friendly and welcoming group, have the opportunity to take part in activities to practise your skills, be encouraged to continue to practise when you are away from the classroom and receive lots of encouragement to help you build both your skills and your confidence.

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us ensure that you feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.

What do I need to join the course?

Some basic sewing skills would be useful but not essential as our tutor will be on hand to support you at all times.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

We have a store of fabric scraps large enough to make crackers, however, if you have a particular theme for your Christmas table or wish to bring some fabric with a special meaning to you, please do so. Basic equipment will be supplied.

What could I do next?

We have a wide range of art and craft courses available - our tutor will give you more information during the session on opportunities to continue your creative journey.
