Whether you are taking part in counselling training to help you start a new career, or you would like to use counselling skills in your current life or work, this introduction to counselling course provides you with an overview of what the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling course will involve, ways in which you can apply the skills learned, and the opportunity to find out about the role of a counsellor.   This introductory course will help you decide whether to progress to our level 2 counselling courses in order to further your studies. 

What will I learn?

On the course you will: 

  • Learn about ways in which counselling skills may help in various contexts. 
  • Begin to understand the skills of active listening. 
  • Be able to discuss with others the concept of personal values and identify your own values. 
  • Understand more about different types of questioning, including closed questioning.

This course is funded through Tailored Learning with the purpose of preparing you for further learning. The cost is visible at the top of the page. Concession may be available dependent on circumstances.

What do I need to join the course?

You will need to have a level 2 qualification in English.

Prior to joining this course you will have a one to one discussion with one of our learning advisors to ensure that this course is right for you. 

Commitment as attendance to all sessions is essential if you are to be successful.  

What do I need to provide for the first session?

  • Access to PC/tablet etc.
  • A4 ring binder, notebook, and pen.
  • Access to a webcam, microphone via computer, laptop, tablet, etc.
  • Internet access.
  • Email account.
  • Access to Teams for Education.
