Dot art is a style of painting created by dotting paint, rather than using brush strokes. The dots can be applied with a stick, but various household objects can be used to create this type of art.
This technique creates images that seem to leap off the page, almost creating an optical illusion.
Dot painting encourages visual attention and concentration, helps develop eye/hand coordination skills and encourages creativity.
Above all, using dot painting techniques is a great way to encourages mindfulness, the step-by-step gradual process brings your attention and thoughts to the present moment.
In this session we will look briefly at the history of dot painting, but you’ll get to spend most of the session creating your own unique dot image which you’ll be able to take home with you.

What do I need to join the course?
No experience of drawing and painting is required for this course, just an enthusiasm to learn.
What do I need to provide for the first session?
You may wish to bring a sketchbook, pencils, and erasers. You should also bring an apron with you to protect your clothing.
What could I do next?
You may wish to develop your skills further by enrolling on one of our other art courses, or take part in other creative subjects such as photography, knitting, dressmaking or creative writing. We also offer courses in English, maths, computers, and employability.
