If you would like to improve your knowledge and understanding of dementia, whether it is for personal reasons or for employment within a care sector setting, then this free course is for you! You will learn about the signs and symptoms of dementia, the difficulties that people living with dementia experience on a daily basis and how you may better support those suffering from this condition.

What do I need to join the course?

In order to join this eLearning course you will need: A reliable internet connection and a computer, laptop, or tablet. You may also choose to use a headset or earphones. You will need to have access to the East Riding eLearn platform and joining instructions will be sent to you after you have enrolled.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

No specific equipment is required to attend the course, although pens & paper for taking notes whilst the training is in progress may be useful. You should ensure that you have a suitable place to study that is free from any distractions.

How will I learn?

This is an eLearning course, which allows you to work at your own pace. Once logged on to eLearn you can access the course on your dashboard. You will find information to read and questions to take part in which must be answered correctly to progress through the course.

What will I learn?

On this course you will learn:

  • What is meant by the term ‘dementia’, what key functions of the brain are affected and how depression, delirium and age related memory impairment may be mistaken for dementia
  • What effect dementia has on the individual
  • The most common types of dementia and their causes and symptoms
  • What the risk factors are for the most common causes of dementia
