Improve Your Essential Digital Skills: Entry Level 3, Level 1 (06G04AL/23)

What will I learn?

You will develop essential digital skills in 5 key areas:

Using devices and handling information
You will learn a basic understanding of hardware, software, operating systems, and commonly used applications, exploring how to manage and store information, and identify and solve simple technical problems.

Creating and editing
You will learn how to create and edit documents, inserting images and using tools and techniques to create documents for a variety of purposes. You will learn the basic tools available within word processing software, before moving on in the level 1 classes to explore further document creation and skills for creating and editing spreadsheets and presentation slides.

Communicating
You will gain understanding of electronic communications, such as sending and receiving emails and participating in video calls. You will move on in the level 1 class to gain awareness of digital communication within the workplace and use of social media.

Transacting
You will learn and explore options to complete and submit an online form, developing understanding of digital verification checks, and the skills and knowledge required to purchase an item or service online. When studying towards the level 1 qualification, you will compare products against other available online options and learn skills to manage your account settings.

Being Safe and Responsible Online
You will learn the importance of digital well-being and how to act responsibly when online. This covers privacy and data protection, recognizing positive/negative online behavior, ways to back up data, and risks associated with digital online activities.

When you enrol onto this Computer and Digital Skills course, your tutor will work with you to give you advice on the best ways to develop your skills and which level of qualification you should work towards. They will discuss with you all of the support we have available and together you will plan out your learning journey.

All of our digital courses take place in small, friendly and welcoming classes, where you will have the opportunity to take part in activities to practice your skills both independently and as part of a group.

You’ll have regular 1-1 time with your tutor to discuss your progress and to identify opportunities for further development. Your tutor will work with you to make sure that you always have the support you need and will also give you information about opportunities to develop your maths or English skills, exercise your creativity or improve your health and wellbeing. If you’re looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

Your tutor will support you in deciding your next steps; you might choose to continue improving your computer and digital skills by working towards the next level of qualification. You might choose instead to develop your maths or English skills or to work towards a qualification in these areas.
