Do you want to know more about mental health? Maybe you are thinking of a new career, or you want to explore how gaining an improved awareness can help in your everyday life or work?

On this FREE two-hour course, you will have an introduction to our Level 2 Awareness in Mental Health Problems course, find out more about our adult learning centres, and meet some of our team, before deciding whether you want to continue to learn more.

What will I learn?

This session is designed for anyone looking to develop their understanding of mental health and the problems that can cause mental ill-health. You will have the opportunity to start to develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of key principles.

How much will it cost?

This course is funded through Tailored Learning. Through this funding, we can offer the course for FREE, or a concession may be available dependent on circumstances.

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us ensure that you feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.

What do I need to join the course?

Enthusiasm to learn more! You do not need to have any previous experience or knowledge of mental health issues to join this course.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Physical delivery - You may find it useful to have a notebook and pen to make notes.

Blended delivery - You may find it useful to have a notebook and pen to make notes. Learning will take place both in the classroom and on Microsoft Teams. For the virtual sessions, you will need to commit to attending the remote session at the specified dates and times. In order to participate in virtual sessions, you will need access to the following:

  • Computer/Laptop/Smartphone/Tablet
  • Headset/earphones, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed / disturb others)
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address to access the virtual classroom
  • A means of using video conferencing e.g. integrated webcam, webcam, smart phone/tablet with camera
  • Teams app downloaded (a free download is available)

What could I do next?

Once you’ve attended this course, you’ll be in a position to decide whether you wish to continue to learn more about mental health as well as general health and wellbeing courses. If so, then you may wish to progress to one of our other mental health awareness courses and your tutor will give you more information about this in the session.
