Whether you need them to secure a great job, study other subjects, or simply feel more confident navigating everyday life and work situations, we are here to support you every step of the way. We offer a range of nationally recognised Functional Skills English qualifications, from Entry Level up to Level 2 (the equivalent of a GCSE pass).

Don’t worry if you aren't sure where to start, as your learning journey will begin with a supportive 1-on-1 chat with one of our friendly Learner Experience Advisors. Together, you will look at your current strengths and goals to find the starting point that’s right for you.

No matter which level you study, you will be supported to develop real-world, practical skills in:

  • Reading: Understanding everyday texts, such as emails, articles and instructions
  • Writing: Expressing yourself clearly and accurately in emails, letters and forms and more
  • Speaking & Listening: Communicating confidently and effectively with others.

What do I need to join the course?

Our English courses are specifically designed for adults who do not currently hold a Level 2 qualification in the subject (such as a GCSE grade C / grade 4 or above). However, if you already have a qualification, but lack confidence or feel that you have significant gaps in your skills or knowledge, please get in touch. Whether you are starting from scratch or aiming for a formal certificate to boost your career, we provide a welcoming, flexible and stress-free environment to help you succeed.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

You should bring with you evidence of your identity (a passport, driving licence or birth certificate) and any qualification certificates you already have.

What qualifications can I get?

You can work towards nationally recognised Functional Skills qualification in English, which are available at various levels depending on your starting point and progress. These qualifications are widely recognised by employers, training providers and educational institutions across the country. They can not only boost your confidence but also enhance your CV, opening up new opportunities for work, further study and personal development.

We’ll help you to work out which level of English is right for you and we’ll support you to achieve the level that you need to reach your goals. We offer Functional Skills English qualifications at Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 in our ‘Improve Your English’ classes and Level 1 and 2 in our ‘English for Life and Work’ classes, so you’ll always be in a group with others working at a similar level.
