Having confidence in your computer and digital skills is essential for a wide range of jobs and also for study in other subjects and other everyday life and work situations. If you’d like to improve your computer and digital skills in a way that works for you, read below to find out how we can help.
We have a choice of courses that can help you to reach your goals; we can support you to work towards your own targets for developing your skills and we also offer a range of nationally recognised qualifications.
If you’d like to gain a qualification to show off your skills, then we also offer a choice of qualifications. You might choose to enrol on one of our focused Essential Digital Skills courses that will enable you to develop your ability to safely carry out a range of everyday tasks, from using devices and handling information, to creating and editing files and communicating and transacting online. These courses will support you to work safely and responsibly online and prepare you for sitting your assessment at a level that is right for you.
Alternatively, our new Digital and IT Skills qualifications focus on developing computer and digital skills linked to employment. This includes using office-based applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software to complete a range of tasks in different contexts.
Our computer and digital courses are available in all of our centres and online too, so you can choose whether you’d like to join us in the classroom or to log in from home and learn virtually. There’s no time like the present, so take the first step and apply today.
The courses are aimed at learners who do not already have a Level 2 ICT or digital skills qualification (GCSE grade C / grade 4 or above). When you apply for this course, we will call you and offer you an appointment with an advisor to discuss what it is you’d like to learn; you can choose whether you’d like to attend an appointment in centre, over the telephone or via Microsoft Teams video call, whichever suits you best.
You should bring with you evidence of your identity (a passport, driving licence or birth certificate) and any qualification certificates you have.
You will meet with one of our experienced advisors who will talk to you about what you want to achieve and why. It may be that you are looking to gain more digital skills to support your children at school, to gain qualifications to help you find work or to give you more confidence when using your computer and digital skills in everyday life. Whatever your reason to learn, we have a course option to suit you.
During your appointment you’ll complete some skill checks to find out what level of digital skills you currently have, including what you are already good at and what it is you need to practice or learn. You’ll also discuss whether you would prefer to learn in one of our centres or virtually at home. Your advisor will then be able to help you to choose the right course and type of learning for you.
It depends on the course; your advisor will explain the different options, which include nationally recognised qualifications, as well as certificates issued by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Your advisor will give you more information about your chosen course and confirm a start date and time with you. We will also talk to you about what to expect on your first day of learning and ask you to read a short induction about what it’s like to learn with us. This will explain what we do to keep you safe during your time with us and give you an understanding of the fundamental British values we abide by and how we promote equality and diversity in our learning environments.
Your advisor will keep in touch with you during your learning to offer support and to make sure you always have the opportunity to give us feedback about your experience.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
